Education & Training
The Nurses Council of Zimbabwe (NCZ) is legally mandated to set, monitor, and regulate the standards of nursing and midwifery education across the country. By prescribing rigorous curricula and accrediting training institutions, the Council ensures that all graduates possess the critical competencies required to deliver safe, high-quality healthcare.
Services
Processing of various applications within the nursing profession
Facilitation of application assessment, verification, approval, and issuance of regulatory documents and services for nurses and midwives
Verification of Health Institutions
The NCZ also plays a pivotal role in the verification of Nurse-led health institutions in Zimbabwe through the inspection of facilities to ensure that they meet the required standards.
Conducting Qualifying Examinations
The Nurses Council of Zimbabwe is also mandated to conduct quality qualifying examinations for all nursing disciplines. This is to ensure that all nurses within the Council’s jurisdiction meet an acceptable level of competence before they begin to practice.
Registration of newly qualified nurses
It is incumbent upon all nurses/midwives practicing in Zimbabwe to meet all the requirements set by the Nurses Council of Zimbabwe. The Council registers all qualified nurses/midwives practicing in the country either in private or public institutions and maintains these registers.
Annual Renewal of Practising Certificates
Upon registration, each nurse/midwife is issued with a registration certificate and a practicing certificate. The practicing certificate is subject to annual renewal.
Inspection of Training Institutions
The Nurses Council of Zimbabwe (NCZ) plays a critical role in ensuring that the training of Nurses in Zimbabwe meets the highest standards. The objectives of the inspections are to ensure that training institutions are compliant with regulatory requirements, to evaluate the quality of nursing education as well as ensuring that the institutions are fully equipped for training. The NCZ also approves the curricula and training regulations for nurses/midwives training schools.
